AmeriCorps is a national service program often referred to
as the domestic Peace Corps. AmeriCorps serves as host to a network
of national, state, and local community strengthening initiatives.
Each year, more than 50,000 AmeriCorps members engage in intensive
service to meet critical needs in education, public safety, health,
and the environment.
AmeriCorps Serving Northwest Ohio is a local program designed
to meet the needs of the Toledo Metropolitan area. ASNO corpsmembers
serve as tutors to elementary-aged children, healthy-family aides,
and mentors to individuals with mental retardation/developmental disabilities.
